How come there is no diss culture in poetry? Or is there one and I just spend too much time listening to Outkast’s Speakerboxxx/The Love Below?  Anyway, I wonder if there are poems out there were poets are specifically called out. Not like in a letter, or an op ed, but like a genuine poem that uses figurative language. Here is a diss to poets I’ve been working on:

Matador, Matador, run straight through the red

’cause I get to the matter for poets said they

can’t handle the metaphor. They can’t handle the simile

especially when I’m dissing thee. Like Shakespeare,

I’ll leave you all poetically dead. You’re Gregor, I’m Gretel

–everyone likes me better, at least that’s what the people said.

I’m not tryna violate, but your poetry wouldn’t even get a first date,

Even if I ate about eight of your verses I wouldn’t gain weight

Yo, you have too many abstractions, I suggest

subtraction, at least a fraction, and add some action

maybe then you’ll get some traction.

P.S. I know it’s bad and it’s not completed. You don’t have to tell me it’s bad, but if you do, it better be in the form of a diss. Fight me.
